The point of Twitter is to tell people what you’re doing; that makes sense. My question is: Do people who use Twitter use their turn signals when driving? It is the same principle, telling people what you’re doing.
Twitter has exploded; people can’t seem to get enough of it. I can’t say it’s all bad. The basic idea is awesome, but the way people use it is stupid. Personally, I don’t use Twitter because of the content on it. If it were more intelligent, I might see the possible use of the website. Unfortunately, there are a lot of stupid people out there, and they use it to explain their day-to-day actions, which is fairly pointless. Under this premise, the desire to make sure everyone knows what everyone else is doing, there seem to be much easier tools. Turn signals, out-of-office replies, a tie on the doorknob, or even holding one’s wallet while in a checkout line; these are all signals of a person’s actions. It seems to me that if a person uses Twitter, they should really enjoy these activities. Personally, I have done no research (maybe I will), so this article is less a rant than a question. Do Twitter users utilize all the other tools in the world that inform everyone of their actions? I have my doubts, judging by the lack of turn signals on the highway.
